Japan's Ambassador to Egypt Norihiro Okuda was appointed the new Ambassador to Canada by the Cabinet of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on March 5, effective immediately.

Ambassador Okuda, 60, joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1975, and has held a number of senior posts in the Middle East, the United States and at MOFA in Tokyo. Before his appointment as Ambassador to Egypt, Okuda served as the deputy head of Japan's permanent mission to the United Nations in New York from 2008 to 2010.
