Canada-ASEAN Business Forum

First ever Canada-ASEAN Business Forum in Singapore
In a historic next step for Canada‐ASEAN trade ties, the Canada‐ASEAN Business Council (CABC) will be organizing the first ever Canada‐ASEAN Business Forum on October 8‐9 2013 in Singapore.

The Forum will be opened with keynote remarks from the Honourable Ed Fast, Canada’s Minister for International Trade, while Day 2 will be opened by Dr. Surin Pitsuwan, Former Secretary General – ASEAN in a session moderated by Rico Hizon, host of the BBC World News Asia Business Report. Other notable speakers will include the Honourable Brad Wall, Premier of Saskatchewan, H.E Heather Grant, High Commissioner of Canada to Singapore and H.E. Philip Eng, High Commissioner of Singapore to Canada. The event will serve as an opportunity for companies to better understand investment opportunities in the ASEAN region and for ASEAN‐based corporations to engage with prospective business partners in the region. Canada has been an ASEAN dialogue partner since 1977. Its foreign direct investment into ASEAN exceeds that of both mainland China and India, and if ASEAN were a country, would be considered Canada’s seventh largest trading partner.

A number of senior leaders will be speaking during the event to share their insights on ASEAN and opportunities for collaboration, including the heads of various Singapore‐based organizations and Welsh‐
Canadian billionaire Sir Terry Matthews. A select sample of speakers include:

• Mr. Lee Wei Sheng, Head (Americas), Economic Development Board of Singapore
• Mr. Shankar Iyer, Chairman, Singapore International Chamber of Commerce
• Mr. Hsieh Tsun‐yan, former Managing Director, McKinsey & Company ASEAN
• Mr. Randolph Mank, Vice President (Asia) – BlackBerry
• Mr. John Sculley, Chairman, InflexionPoint and former CEO, Apple Computer
• Sir Terry Matthews, Chairman ‐ Wesley Clover
• Mr. Yuen Pau Woo, President, Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada
• H.E. Donald Bobiash, Ambassador of Canada to ASEAN

One historic outcome from the Forum will be presentation of the first ever Canada‐ASEAN Business Survey, completed in partnership with the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada, the peak voice for Asian relations in Canada. The findings will be presented at a discussion session sponsored by United Overseas Bank Limited and moderated by Lisa Oake CNBC’s Squawk Box. Participants will also be able to attend sessions on specific ASEAN countries, key industry sectors in ASEAN and emerging ASEAN issues, while Canadian business and government leaders will present emerging opportunities in Canada.
