1. Name: Seiji Omote

2. Position / Business: Senior Adviser, Overseas Division, JK Holdings Co., Ltd.
Partner, Forest Economic Advisors, U.S.A.
Industry: Forest Products / International Business Development

3. Why I want to serve as Governor: For the past six years, it has been my privilege to serve as a Governor of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Japan (CCCJ). I am seeking re-election to continue supporting the Chamber’s important role in strengthening Canada–Japan business relations. Throughout nearly 50 years in the Canadian forest products industry, I have dedicated my career to developing long-term commercial relationships between Canada and Japan. This experience has provided me with a broad understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing businesses in both countries. Frankly, I have a lot of flexibility with my time to give the Chamber which I believe is important to seriously support the Chamber's activities, especially behind the scene.

4. Previous CCCJ involvement: As a Governor as well as a member of the Honorary Board of Advisers (HBA), I have worked diligently to support communication and collaboration between the two Chamber boards. I believe the CCCJ benefits from both new perspectives and experienced leadership that provides continuity, stability, and sound judgment. During my 6 years on the Board, I have consistently participated in almost every Board meeting in-person, and virtually while traveling internationally. I have also served as Board Liaison to the Membership Committee, supporting membership recruitment, member engagement, and relationship building within the business community.

5. Proudest accomplishment as a volunteer: I helped organize golf events including the CPTPP (Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership) Cup Golf Tournament and took care of all the details required of the high-level event. This event truly connected and strengthened the relationships among the trans-Pacific nations, and placed the CCCJ in a favorable leadership role

6. Ideas and plans for the CCCJ:

  1. To continue to seek out new members, from sustaining to individual, for the CCCJ by expanding
    networking into the Kansai area.
  2. To service the existing membership by finding out our members’ needs and requests and
communicating clearly to the Board to action what is beneficial to the individual businesses as well as to
    the general business community.
  3. To increase industry-specific networking events in collaboration with businesses and other
    committees.
