Shawn Lawlor

Candidate for Governor

Dear CCCJ Members,

Hi, my name is Shawn Lawlor and I am running for CCCJ Governor. Born and raised in Ottawa, I first came to Japan to teach English under the then newly formed JET Program in Kochi Prefecture in 1990. And so began this wonderful journey that still finds me home in Tokyo over 30 years later.

After teaching, I found my calling with the Canadian forest products industry. I began a career as a lumber trader of Canadian forest products to Japan and China. In 2007, I had the opportunity to join the COFI/Canada Wood Tokyo Office to represent Canada’s softwood lumber industry in Japan. My day job is to lead a multi-disciplinary team in the development of trade opportunities for Canadian forest products in Japan.

I have also been active member of the CCCJ, serving on the board and committees. I have made many great friends at the CCCJ and have previously served as Vice-Chair, Governor and several committees including Trade Policy and Membership. My track record of contributions include development of CCCJ trade policy, resolving operational challenges such as hiring and office relocation as well as expanding membership.

After a hiatus of several years, I am seeking your support to return to the CCCJ Board so that I might positively contribute to the Chamber. In this world of trade friction and rising uncertainty, I believe that the Chamber’s role in strengthening Canada-Japan business ties is more vital than ever. I would humbly ask for your support so that I might positively contribute to the CCCJ Board of Governors by supporting management and Chamber operations.
