Yu Maemura is a Japanese-Canadian researcher that analyzes how the themes of global poverty, climate change, sustainability, conflicts, and security apply to the context of international development. His research includes studies in conflict resolution, evaluation theory and methodology, system dynamics, linguistics (socio-linguistics and cognitive linguistics), communication studies, and discourse analysis (among others).

Organizations he has advised or collaborated with include: the Japan International Cooperation Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Japan, Saitama University, Matsumoto Dental University, and various private sector organizations within the development aid or engineering sector.
