Bento Box Series: Building Canada–Japan Hydrogen Collaboration Through a Hub-Based Approach

The CCCJ Energy Committee is pleased to launch its Bento Box Series with Brent Lakeman, Executive Director of the Edmonton Region Hydrogen Hub, exploring opportunities for Canada-Japan collaboration in the hydrogen sector.

For nearly six years, the Edmonton Region has been building a sustainable hydrogen economy. As Canada’s largest hydrogen production cluster, the region is home to leading projects focused on hydrogen production, transportation and use across multiple sectors.

This presentation will introduce the Edmonton Region Hydrogen Hub and discuss how it is working with Japanese public- and private-sector partners to develop opportunities across the hydrogen value chain. It will also highlight potential areas for collaboration, including growing demand for hydrogen in heavy-duty transportation and developing the infrastructure needed to export Canada’s low-cost, low-carbon hydrogen to Asian markets.

The Bento Box Series, organised in connection with the Trade & Investment Committee, is a lunchtime seminar programme that showcases the expertise, initiatives and achievements of CCCJ members. Through concise, member-led presentations designed to fit conveniently within the lunch hour, the series provides a platform for members to share insights, industry developments and market leadership with the wider Chamber community, while encouraging engagement and fostering professional connections across the CCCJ network.
