Diversity in Rugby

The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Japan together with our Rugby Alliance partners invite you to join us at the second of our Rugby Alliance series of events: Diversity in Rugby

By now, you already know the facts about the Rugby World Cup 2019. From September 20 to November 2, forty-eight games involving 20 international teams will be held in 12 host cities across Japan. It will be the first time the mega event has been held in Asia, and the country is poised to welcome over 400,000 unique visitors across 44 days, attracting worldwide media attention from over 200 nations.

By the end of 2018, a record number of over 4.5 million ticket applications had been received by organisers. Beyond ticketing, it is estimated that the tournament will generate a total output of around ¥437.2 billion (£2.97 billion), boosting national GDP by ¥216.6 billion (£1.47 billion).

Underpinning these headline numbers, the Rugby World Cup 2019 is nurturing a diverse legacy. The ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ tournament has begun to hold promise for regional economies, businesses, communities, and families. Governing bodies say it could be a game-changer, thanks to the Impact Beyond legacy programme which has introduced the game to over 460,000 participants across the country. Sponsors are utilising the event as an agent for social change. Schools are celebrating shared rugby values, of teamwork, drive and ambition. And all of this is set against the backdrop of an incredible global gender shift - in 2017, more young women played rugby for the first time than men, and 29% of players are now female.

Join us on March 26 to discover the bigger D&I picture surrounding the RWC 2019, from a dream team of panelists. We promise you will see the power and potential of rugby in a completely new light.
