Visa/Tax - What has changed? 日本のビザ・税金について何が変わったか?

Exit tax, reporting of overseas assets, new visa statuses introduction

On April 7th, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Japan, the Danish Chamber of Commerce in Japan, and the South African Chamber of Commerce in Japan, in conjunction with member company Nakai Immigration Services will host an information networking event focused on visa and tax issues in Japan. Hosted at the Tokyo American Club, the event will start off with a 40 minute session on the above subject, followed by a chance for networking, food (buffet style) and free-flow beverages (nomihoudai).

Discussion overview: A partial reorganization of statuses of residence have recently come into effect and the establishment of new procedures to facilitate landing examinations are planned. In addition to this, recent tax rule changes will also affect foreigners living in Japan, and some may lead to unexpected results. Such tax changes include the introduction of an exit tax system for those leaving Japan, and application of Inheritance tax to heirs living overseas. We will explain how these changes should impact you with some concrete examples. Tax issues will be presented by ITO International Tax & Accounting Office.
