Area of Expertise: Environmental policy, specifically that related to climate change and biodiversity conservation policy in small-scale agriculture and fisheries. Includes expertise in ecosystem-based management, adaptation, vulnerability, resilience and disaster management in agriculture and fisheries. Although Japan is my base, work with the Japanese government and UN offices working with SIDS in the Pacific and Caribbean Region on resource management, food security, climate change and biodiversity related policy advising/development/implementation. Work with UN FAO GIAHS programme focuses on small-scale agriculture and fisheries policy. The programme is based out of FAO headquarters and currently works directly with governments in over 40 countries, Japan included.

He has published widely in peer-reviewed international journals such as China Perspectives, East Asia, the Journal of Asian Politics and History and the International Studies Review on topics related to trade, nationalism and China-Japan relations. He has also published in think tank and commercial outlets such as the China Economic Quarterly and the World Commerce Review on trade and political risk and provides consulting services related to political risk in North and Southeast Asia.
