CCCJ Non-Tariff Barriers Round Table

The CCCJ Trade Policy Committee is organizing a meeting for Chamber members to discuss the non-tariff barriers (NTB) facing their respective sectors. The purpose of this meeting is to provide a forum for member companies to articulate their industry specific priorities and allow the CCCJ to communicate these objectives to the Japanese and Canadian federal governments. At the roundtable we will discuss questions such as; what non-tariff market barriers would you like to see addressed? What are your industry’s core issues that you would like to see resolved?

As a part of the CCCJ Tohoku Support Committee’s program, hosting high school students from Rikuzentakata, we will have a chance for students to meet each other and hear about the companies where they interned for the week, and also have a chance to meet our members.

On March 14th, 2014, Embassy of Canada, in collaboration with the Japan-Canada Interdisciplinary Research Network on Gender, Diversity and Tohoku Reconstruction (JCIRN), will hold a “Japan-Canada Policy Dialogue on Democracy, Diversity, and Disasters.” This is the sister event to the “Japan-Canada Policy Dialogue on Risk Governance”, which was hosted by the Embassy of Japan in Ottawa on February 6, 2014.

In this seminar, Asia Corporate Governance Association (ACGA) Secretary General Jamie Allen will explain the key points of ACGA’s recent report on this topic, and the conclusions that ACGA reached. Next, Bruce Aronson, Professor of Law at Hitotsubashi ICS, will summarize the findings of a useful survey done by the Kansayaku Kyokai (Japan Audit and Supervisory Board Members Association) to document real-life examples of the role and concrete actions that kansayaku are taking in Japanese companies.

Come out and support Canadian tennis players Vasek Pospilsil and Milos Raonic during their match against the Japanese team of Kei Nishikori and Go Soeda for the Davis Cup. The match takes place in three consecutive days in Ariake Colosseum from January 31 - February 2, 2014. 

There will be a Team Canada seating area during the matches where fans will be able to show their Canadian spirit together and cheer for the Canadian Team.

To celebrate the start of the year of the Horse, the CCCJ will be holding our annual Shinnenkai at Whistler Café on January 28th, 2014. Whistler Café is a Canadian style bar with a variety of Canadian food such as chicken wings and poutines! Please come out and join us for a drink and some networking.

The CCCJ will have a section of the bar reserved for our private use. Registration is unnecessary and attendees are responsible for a pay-as-you-go system.
