[Event Report] 2016 CCCJ Golf Scramble

Golf as it should be…FUN!!!

On May 27th, the 15th Annual CCCJ Golf Tournament began in front of the Canadian Embassy with rain pouring down while sleepy-eyed, yet, optimistic golfers straggled onto the bus at 6:30am. This optimism was further tempered with a toast of beer and met with drier skies as we approached Tsutsujigaoka Golf Course.

The tournament, a team scramble, is a format that means no one plays alone. It also means you don’t have to worry so much about the odd, or in some cases many, wayward shots. Just step up to the best shot hit by someone in your group, then drop your ball to hit from there.

In the end two teams were tied with incredible scores of 59! For the finale of the presentation dinner, a putt-off was held leaving only one team standing: Goh Sugita, Mohan Patel, Neal Walters and our very own, David Anderson! After donning their Golden Toques (Canadian red gold of course), together they hoisted the coveted CCCJ Cup to the cheers of thousands!

The CCCJ Cup is a tournament designed to be fun. And, indeed, many have told us that this is the most fun they had playing golf. That fun continued on the bus home as we continued to enjoy a few more toasts to the winners and a few more to console those who didn’t fare as well. Until next year!!!

Our thanks to Kieron Cashell who organised the bus and the golf course. And to Tsutsujigaoka GC who put on a great spread of food and drink and put up with our group of noisy revellers. Finally a special thanks to all of our sponsors, Air Canada; Canada Wood; Tokyo American Club; Hotel New Otani; Grand Hyatt Tokyo; Toyota; Cool Clubs; Tsutsujigaoka Golf & Country Club who helped make this a memorable time for all!

We look forward to seeing you all again next year!!!
