SCCIJ March Luncheon

The SCCIJ is organizing a luncheon on the topic of ‘The rise of protectionism and the future of free trade’, to be held on March 28th at Grand Hyatt Tokyo. The speakers will be former Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Mr. Akira Amari and Swiss National Councillor Ms. Elisabeth Schneider-Schneiter.

The rise of protectionism and the future of free trade

The aim of Switzerland's free trade policy is the improvement of the framework conditions for economic relations with relevant economic partners. As the third largest national economy in the world, Japan offers many opportunities for Swiss businesses and vice versa. The Free Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (FTEPA) that is in force since September 2009 underlines the importance of the bilateral relations. It is a success story between two similar countries.
The presentation will also touch upon trade policy considerations of Japan under Trump: TPP, EU-negotiations, RCEP and FTAAP.
