KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
DOMINIC CARTER. CEO, The Carter Group & Japanese Wabi-Sabi Entrepreneur

How a Modern Wabi-Sabi Craft Business Was Launched
The inside story of the Wa Project—and the winning JMEC 19 business plan!

In his talk, Dominic Carter will share the inside story of his highly interesting and exciting Wa Group Project—which was based on the winning JMEC 19 business plan. Dominic has a well established and successful market research business in Japan and Asia, in the form of The Carter Group. However, he also has a long-time passion for Japanese craft—in particular with a modern wabi-sabi design.

For some time it was his dream to bring such craft to the world and share it with a wider audience—also outside Japan. Last year the dream took flight with the help ofANZCCJ and a JMEC 19 team, which for good measure also won the JMEC competition! Dominic proceeded to implement the plan—and on March 22, 2014, he presided over the official opening of his new Wa Space in Akasaka.

MAKOTO ARIGA. Director, HR, Hewlett Packard Japan
Developing Leaders for a Global Business Environment
An HP Perspective

Makoto Ariga, our second keynote speaker—is the Head of Human resources at HP Japan—where he is an active member of the HR Leadership team as well as the HP Japan Management Committee.
Before joining HP in 2010, Ariga held a number of senior management positions at several companies—in general management as well as HR. His two most recent positions prior to HP were as President & CEO of Eddie Bauer Japan and HR Director at IBM Japan.

In his talk Ariga will speak about the challenges of developing leaders for an increasingly global business environment. These days even people that work in positions classified as domestic, often work with customers and colleagues from other countries—and most industries have become or are becoming global in nature. It is therefore essential for companies to develop business leaders with a global mindset—who can succeed in such an environment.

Ariga passionately believes that people are by far the most important asset of any business—and will share his experience in a range of industries, and talk about some of his new HP training initiatives like Learning Cafe.

Clearly a man of much energy and diverse talents—in addition to his day job at HP, Ariga also sings in a band at night! So don't miss his talk!
