Osaka Consulate Closure : What Does it Mean?
The Canadian business community in the Kansai expressed shock and confusion over the announcement from the Canadian Embassy that the Consulate of Canada in Osaka will close by March 31, 2007. While the Canadian government stated that this decision was taken after extensive deliberation, CCCJ members and those involved in the Canada-Japan relationship do not understand the logic of this decision or why there was no consultation with outside stakeholders. Participants had an opportunity to question Canadian consul Allan Edwards to learn what this means to Canadians and CCCJ members.
